What are your reasons for reading books and other long-form works in this age of 140 characters and one-word comments?

Reading gives me knowledge & perspective. It broadens my horizons, and helps me understand more of the human experience. It’s relaxing and gratifying. I’ve become better at understanding myself, others, and my surroundings through reading. Reading has increased my critical thinking skills, and makes me feel like a contributing member of an enlightened history dating back to, well, the Enlightenment.
